Literary characters Eleanor Oliphant, Ove Lindahl and all of Starkadders from Cold Comfort Farm are odd, complicated, and sometimes downright infuriating misfits. They’re also some of the most marvellously compelling characters in books readers remember well after the final page.
Join the Vision Australia Library’s final In Conversation for 2022 as we end the year on a high note with writers Katherine Collette and RWR McDonald who capture their own oddball characters with nuance, compassion and laughter.
About the authors
Katherine Collette’s works The Helpline and The Competition centre around a collection of endearing but socially challenged misfits who need to let go of their less-than-perfect pasts in order to take control of their lives.
R.W.R. McDonald (Rob) award winning adult crime novels The Nancys, and its sequel, Nancy Business follow in the tradition of a whodunit murder mystery, except all the characters are completely out of control and pay no attention to any rules. It’s main characters collectively form a “found family”, which is greater than the sum of its parts, and a hat-tip to McDonald’s queer experience.
